Following the Israeli drone attack on June 13, the Fajr Jam Gas Refinery — a key energy facility in southern Iran — has entered a fast-track reconstruction phase. With the relentless efforts of dedicated personnel and full support from the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), the refinery is preparing to restore maximum gas production capacity before the winter season.
The incident, which involved hostile Israeli UAVs targeting both the Fajr Jam Gas Refinery and Phase 14 of the South Pars gas complex, caused temporary disruptions. However, rapid emergency response successfully contained the damage and prevented further escalation.
Saeed Tavakkoli, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of NIGC, visited the site and praised the refinery’s personnel for their heroic efforts during the so-called “12-Day War.” He emphasized, “The unity between frontline staff and headquarters demonstrates our organizational maturity — a key factor in overcoming this crisis.”
Mohammadreza Jolaei, Director of Coordination and Production Supervision at NIGC, also highlighted significant achievements in rebuilding the damaged units. He stated, “At least one of the two damaged sweetening units will be fully operational by the beginning of winter.”
Fajr Jam plays a critical role in sweetening natural gas from the Nar and Kangan fields, as well as a portion of the gas from South Pars Phases 6 to 8. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, reconstruction is progressing rapidly, and damage assessments and procurement plans are actively underway.
The rapid restoration of Fajr Jam will be essential in ensuring a stable and secure gas supply during Iran’s high-demand winter months.
Earlier, in a visit to the South Pars Gas Complex, Jolaei had highlighted the importance of relying on domestic capabilities in overcoming crises and conducting major overhauls at refineries. “It is a great source of pride for Iran’s gas industry to be able to independently meet its strategic needs through domestic expertise and resources,” he said.
He added, “Carrying out high-quality overhaul operations plays a vital role in maintaining gas production, ensuring equipment safety, and preventing unplanned outages. Maximizing the use of local capacities, utilizing domestically manufactured goods and components, and relying on the knowledge and expertise of Iranian engineers are core strategies of the National Iranian Gas Company. These efforts reduce reliance on foreign sources and strengthen the national industry.”
It is worth noting that the explosions at the Fajr Jam Refinery and Phase 14 of the South Pars complex were caused by hostile Israeli UAVs. However, rapid response by operational teams successfully prevented the damage from escalating.
